Analytics Program for Small Businesses

FireClick is an analytic program that works well with small companies. The tracking software allows your company to track every statistic you can imagine. A great feature is the report creator where you can create more than 100 customized reports. You can even schedule the reports you want and the program will create them.

The best thing about FireClick is the reports allow you to segment out your customers by allowing the user to compile as many reports as they would like. PPC tracking is also available for people who are running paid search engine campaigns. Of the top features of FireClick, these three are my favorite.

  • Customized reports allows you to segment your customers
  • Tracking for shopping cart abandonment
  • Tracking for most popular products

Check out FireClick next time you decide to upgrade your tracking software.

Dell no Longer Direct Seller

Dell has teamed up with Wal Mart Stores, Inc. to sell their computers. This is the first of any kind of relationship for Dell who previously directly sold their computers. Dell increased their supply chain performance over the last 5 years to a point where they became the Benchmark in the logistics world.

They are going to be throwing their supply chain out of whack now, or so it would seem, by partnering with another company to sell their products. Dell also stands to make a Lot of Money! Selling their products through Wal Mart is guaranteed to be successful with the lower priced computers and accessories. Time will tell if the higher priced computers will do well with the mega-retailer. The biggest change with this move will be the fact that you can pick up a Dell computer and use it the same day (you only used to be able to buy a ready to use Dell at Dell Stores). Accessibility of the computers is greater and I would expect to see more strategic arrangements in the near future.

The Right Network for Affiliates

Posted by Rambles | Affiliate Marketing | Thursday 24 May 2007 9:57 am

Affiliates might see the list of affiliate networks and become overwhelmed.  Wondering if it would be worth it to join more than one network.  Many affiliates entering the game have heard of Commission Junction so that is who they register with, ignoring the rest of the networks.

The number of affiliate networks continues to grow.  Competition rages between the top 3 affiliate networks Commission Junction, LinkShare, and Performics.  Share A Sale has found a good niche targeting smaller to medium size merchants.  There are still more networks such as Affiliate Future, which offers many merchants including the great eBook by Vlad, “Practical Guide to Affiliate Marketing” and still more affiliate programs are run in-house or by emerging affiliate networks.  Here is a run down of the top four affiliate networks.

Commission Junction – Large to Medium Size Companies

eBay, Capitol One, Wall Street Journal

LinkShare – Large to Medium Size Companies

Sharper Image, NHL.com, wine.com

Performics – Large to Medium Size Companies

Target, AOL, Blockbuster

Share A Sale – Medium to Small Size Companies

Denver Fabrics, Checks Unlimited, Entirely Pets

Share A Sale is the best run affiliate network.  Offering a number of user friendly tools for both merchants and affiliates improves the affiliate marketing experience. Check out the “Make a Page” option for affiliates and the “create a widget” for merchants.  The stats tracking is also superior to any of the other networks.

Affiliate networks can be too large for their own good in my opinion.  Commission Junction is constantly late in their payments to affiliates and often times their network goes down with no warning.  LinkShare is still improving their interface and payment methods and are becoming stronger on the whole.  Performics is very middle of the road in terms of their all-around affiliate marketing experience.

Affiliates should not limit themselves to one network.  When designing your affiliate site you should pull merchants that fit the theme of your site from any network possible.

Technorati Has Changed!

Add to Technorati Favorites

Technorati has gotten a face lift. I like the new site design, but the one thing that bums me out is that you can still see blog’s Authority, but no longer the ranking. I like the layout though, and here are some other changes:

  • Search Silos have been removed
  • Streamlined blog-search only homepage
  • Prioritized and simplified navigation and other features based on member’s suggestions

Affiliates who market for Payless’ affiliate program will be happy to hear that Payless has just purchased Stride Rite for $800 million. This move is an effort by Payless to appeal to the shoe shopper willing to spend more money for higher quality shoes. Stride Rite operates 300 stores in the U.S. and is well known for their products. Beware Google’s Supplemental Index

Posted by Rambles | Search Engine Optimization | Wednesday 23 May 2007 7:26 am

Google has two basic search results. Their main results index and their supplemental index. People and businesses that use SEO on their sites are trying to climb to the top of the rankings in the main index. Nobody wants any part of their site relegated to Google’s supplemental index. Matt Cutts of Google says that the reason pages go to the supplemental index is because they do not carry a high enough Page Rank. I know this isn’t the complete truth coming from Matt Cutts because I have seen sites with great Page Rank sitting in the supplementals.

The biggest reason pages are sent to the supplemental index is because of duplicate content. It is understandable that Google would like to organize and show you only relevant results in their main results index. It still makes a lot of business and websites cringe to find that they have multiple pages in the supplemental index.

A lot of people say find the ratio of pages in regular index and in the supplemental index, and if the number is over half in the supplemental index then you need to make some changes.  I personally feel that this is quite unnecessary.  It is my feeling that you should be able to take a look at where you pages lie in Google and if you feel there are too many pages in the supplemental index, then delete some duplicate content.  If you see a lot of pages in the supplemental but they wouldn’t do anything for you anyway, then don’t worry about it.  Supplemental itself isn’t a negative term and it doesn’t have to be a negative area in Search Engines either.  Use common sense when looking at your pages in Google’s indexes and don’t freak out if you see your pages in the supplemental rankings.
