SEO’s Slammed

| Search Engine Optimization | Friday 1 June 2007 4:24 am

An article on the front page of Site Pro News, titled Why Most “SEO’s” Need to Learn to Shutup. The post was written by Mark Daoust, who claims that most SEO’s know just enough to make themselves dangerous to their site and their company.

It seems that for every claim made by someone who claims to know SEO, there are 100 exceptions to the rule.

Basically he says that the majority of small time SEO’s may have some knowledge of optimizing sites for search engines, but most have learned only enough to guess at the correct solution. The article is cynical, and is some cases it is true. It is not hard to believe that there is a significant portion of SEO’s who don’t know all the nuts and bolts of the profession. Part of the reason is there isn’t any sanctioning body and every SEO company that mentors new people use their own ideas.

Finally Mark goes on to say that there are people who are experts in SEO, and these are the only people to be trusted. They are the ones who do research into what Google is really looking for and how to saturate the search engines. There are many self-taught SEO’s on the Internet, and many of those self-taught students learned from the so-called SEO experts through blogs, forums, and other avenues. SEOmoz came out with a great article SEO in 2007 that gives viewers an opportunity to see both sides argued over a number of SEO topics. It will take time for the SEO community to develop a legitimate governing body that can instill standards into the industry.
