Internet Growth Reaching a Bubble that is Ready to Burst

Posted by Rambles | Affiliate Marketing | Thursday 25 October 2007 11:33 am

Many companies on the Internet continue to see enormous growth and valuations of Internet companies have never been higher.  This reminds a lot of people of the last Dot Com burst.

But is this situation as bad?

Companies like Amazon continue to see enormous growth quarter after quarter.  Experts believe that this growth is not sustainable and that the Internet could be in for a rocky road ahead.  Stock prices, company value will begin to fall bringing the Internet back down to Earth.

I don’t agree with most of these experts.  The Internet is still relatively new and it will continue to grow and innovate.  Where some areas may slow down, others will pick up the slack.  The Internet provides people with a connection to the entire world, something we can’t get anywhere else.  As more of the world adopts computers and the Internet, the Internet will continue to grow.  Especially as Social networks and Web 2.0 continues to grow.  And as Web 2.0 slows down, expect to see a new movement, whether it is called Web 3.0, I don’t know, but the Internet is alive and it is not slowing down.

Skip the Crowds and Shop Black Friday 2007 Online

Advice for shopping on Black Friday. Beat the crowds, and get the best products at the best prices.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, and it is when the biggest deals are offered by retailers online and in stores. Generally, these sales don’t last longer than 1 day. In order to take advantage of Black Friday sales, one must fight the crowd or surf the web to take advantage of deals offered by retailers.

Expect a lot of free shipping offers from retailers for Black Friday this holiday season in a n effort to increase spending online. Let me tell you, I would much rather do my shopping online at 6 am with a full stomach of turkey than waiting around in the cold for a crowded store to open.

Some of the retailers to keep an eye on for Black Friday 2007, as they are notorious for incredible savings:

Sharper Image

And Everyone’s Page Rank Crashes …

Posted by Rambles | Affiliate Marketing | Wednesday 24 October 2007 4:13 pm

My Page Rank is still sitting at 3.  I know throughout the online community, a number of reputable sites and blogs have had their Page Rank decreased, some by as many as 2 points.  Company sites such as Forbes and well-known blogging website Problogger were not immune to these Google slaps.  The question remains as to why these penalties were enforced.  Was it because of paid links?  Links in a bad neighborhood?  Either way, I feel bad for the people whose sites have been penalized, and hopefully the problem can be figured out so the online community can learn from it and make necessary changes so the Almighty Google does not smite us anymore.

Sharper Image Inching Closer to Bankruptcy, Banking on Black Friday 2007

Free Shipping + 50% off the 2nd Silent Air Purifier! expires 11/30/07

Sharper Image has been losing money quarter over quarter for some time now and combine it with other factors and Sharper Image’s chances of survival are lessening by the day. Sharper Image’s cash and cash equivalents, as reported by the SEC, are down to $800,000 from $18 million last quarter. So they applied for a $20 million loan, and they got it. Good news right?

Now the class action lawsuit against Sharper Image and their air purifiers has turned sour. Sharper Image’s proposed settlement was a $19 coupon to all members of the class action lawsuit, and the judge said no. The prosecutor is pushing for a full refund, which would cost Sharper Image roughly $900 million. We will have to wait and see how this turns out.

Sharper Image is excited about this holiday season, saying that this is where their turnaround will begin. Sharper Image is hoping that a big Black Friday will kick off the holiday shopping season well. With new products being released, and many introduced around Black Friday 2007, they believe they have reason to be excited. Their deals for Black Friday are always insane, and you truly can find some great products during this time, some even for 75% off. But will this be enough to save the company?

Is it Ethical for a Merchant with an Affiliate Program to be an Affiliate

Posted by Rambles | Affiliate Marketing,Affiliate Networks,Affiliate Programs | Tuesday 23 October 2007 7:28 pm

This is a question that has been hotly debated in past, but what do you think?

I ran across a site today that is clearly an online retailer, with their own affiliate program, and yet, they have a page with about 15 Affiliate links.  Not only that, but they have masked their links to funnel sites that re-direct to the merchant’s site.  And on top of everything else, the Affiliate sites aren’t even remotely related to the retailer’s website. They make it possible for other Affiliate marketers to lose sales because they are wildly promoting other sites under false pretenses.

I won’t reveal this retailer, as I personally won’t stoop down to their level, but the fact is that this retailer seemingly makes plenty of money off of sales and advertising, and the fact they hide Affiliate links sickens me.

So I ask you, do you think it is ethical for retailers with Affiliate programs to promote someone else’s Affiliate program?
