Sharper Image Declares Bankruptcy … Told You So!

Sharper Image has filed for bankruptcy protection. I told you it would happen … I have been saying it for nearly 1 full year now. With steeply declining profits and 3 CEO’s over the last 2 years, was there really any doubt?

Sharper Image is now saying that it is all a judge’s fault for rejecting their settlement over their ionic air purifiers for $22 million. An interesting quote from Bloomberg regarding the Sharper Image bankruptcy situation:

“Once you get to this situation it’s like a death spiral,” said Joan Storms, a Los Angeles-based analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities. “Your sales are bad, your equity is getting weaker, the vendors are afraid to ship to you.”

Last year alone sales declined 26%. Sales have been declining for 2 full years now for Sharper Image, whose inability to launch interesting products drove them under. Sharper Image will now be cutting 90 of 184 stores. Expect them to go completely under in the very near future.

Sharper Image Sales Drop 47% – Trouble Looms

Sharper Image’s sales continue to plummet. Now Sharper Image’s sales are down 47% from a year ago in Quarter 3. You’d think that after 2 straight years of falling sales at Sharper Image, that they would start showing some fear that end might be nigh.

Well, there is some fear, but there is also hope according to spokespeople from Sharper image. Sharper Image claims to have had a great start to the holiday shopping season with strong sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Sharper Image claims that they have nothing to worry about and that sales will turn around soon for the company. Sharper Image has boosted their online efforts trying to make an easier shopping experience for shoppers online. They have improved the overall flow of the website as well as the checkout process. All this was done with very little added expense. This is good because they have accrued a net loss of over $20 million so far this year.
